The Health Benefits of Belly Dancing

There are very real and tangible physical, emotional and psychological benefits to this ancient practice–in fact, there are so many benefits to Belly Dance, that I decided to share one at a time, to help you digest them all.

Another benefit:   Belly Dance is exercise!

Our bodies were not created to be in a chair for hours at a time. To be healthy and fit, we need to get moving. Belly Dance is aerobic as well as isometric, and limbering too. Gentle, Aerobic Belly Dance:

  • increases heart and lung activity, which

  • oxygenates the blood, which

  • delivers fresh oxygen to the womb, brain, and every cell, and

  • carries away internal waste products,

  • strengthens and tones the neck, hips, spinal muscles, upper and lower back, arms, legs, and belly through specific

  • weight-bearing movements, which is the easiest way to

  • increase bone density and bone strength

  • increase synovial fluid in the joints,

  • releases endorphins that uplift and relieve depression

  • preparation of childbirth; it makes an excellent prenatal regimen

  • its an excellent stress-reducer

Yes, Belly Dance is truly an Art, and there are traditional steps, moves and nuances to be learned, but Belly Dance is learned one simple step at a time.  No one is too anything for Belly Dance!
